A member of ‘our’ network has this to offer

As you all know I bang on at regular intervals about our network being a fellowship - we are here to support each other.  Well with this ethos in mind read on.

A member of our network is a Health and Safety specialist - he now has set up a company that is doing very well.  He has told me that if any business comes his way from ’the group’ they will get a substantial commission in their first year.  I will act as the point of liaision.  Hasten to add I have no pecuniary interest but am always thrilled to support you all.

Moneysaving Expert Forums

I was looking on these earlier and there is a mine of information there about how the jobcentre works and what happens during their recruiting process and similar. Additionally the site sends out helpful Emails on moneysaving offers that actually are helpful. The Forums could be a very useful resource as DWP people apparently contribute Anonymously so it could be a source for allthat stuff your local representative doesn’t know.

Is the thread I found on Self Employment and Enterprise Credits. martin lewis runs the site he is the guy who appaears on ITV’s tonight and other programmes talking about personal finance.

Self Employment Credits

hi all,The idea of these is the Jobcentre pays you £50 a week for 16 weeks if you go self employed or start a business. The problem is the jobcentre suggested it to me at a 12 month interview then denied knowing any details about it and suggested looking at the website. So i did and theres no detail there either. In fact the very name of this particular intiative seems to be unclear.

is the link I followed. I am left witht he following questions:

Is this instead of or in addition to existing benefits?

What happens if you get a job during the 16 week period?

What happens if the buisness still isn’t earning after 16 weeks?

Any help is appreciated

‘Who wants to be an entrepeneur?’

There is going to be an interesting event on 4th August in Portsmouth.  The University of Portsmouth Business School in partnership with Jobcentre Plus are putting on an event.  Timings are 10 - 2pm.  It is free and lunch is also thrown in.

As you all know I attended an event at their Business School a few weeks ago and found it very informative.  This time I have been told well in advance and it is open to any of you who wish to attend.  If you wish to attend can you let me know - the Manager of Alton JCP has kindly offered to sort out the registration administration for you all.

The Never Ending Search

I started earning money again at the beginning of March after almost a year out of work.   I realised, looking back, that all of the jobs I’ve had were through somebody I knew, an ex-colleague or an introduction by a friend.   I had never got a job via an agency, a newspaper advert or a web site.   During that terrifying year I somehow knew that that’s how I would get working again even though I persisted in firing off applications, checking web sites, posting CVs and cold calling agencies.   I suppose that, although pointless in a way, those activities kept me occupied and help me “make cause” to find work again.

I’m hopeless at networking but my experiences tell me that is what we all need to do, bearing in mind Frank Bennett’s earlier post on how the job market has changed.   Getting through “black periods” is a difficult art and requires persistence so adopt the principle “Hon Nin Myo” - every day a fresh start.
