Management consultancy workshop - 7 Cs of consultancy

A couple of years ago I attended a workshop delivered by Mick Cope and his team from WizOZ.  He has written several very interesting and informative books on management/leadership etc.  Came away from the workshop energised.  He has been in touch with me to let me know that he is planning another event.  For more information you can either contact me directly and I will forward your details to Mick - alternatively you can see his profile on Linkedin.

I totally recommend it.

One of ‘our’ team has set up a business - computer software

A member of our network has set up a computer software business - he wants to stress that this is nowt to do with ICT support but concerned with the effective use of the equipment.  As  you all know Kerry does not do technical so I strongly suggest you check out his web page www.scandicconsulting.com  .  Like other members of the network who have businesses he is happy to sort out a discount for members of the Open Door network!

Do like this team work in action -

Coaching research programme - University of Surrey

A member of our network has brought to my attention that the University of Surrey are involved with a pilot programme that is there to support clients of managerial level who either have the threat of redundancy or have indeed been made redundant. Up to 15 hours personalised coaching is being offered.

I have the contact details of the University member of staff who is running this initiative.

Opportunities in the Third Sector

I have come across a site where you can ‘register’ for interim/consultancy positions within the Third Sector.  View this as an excellent way of keeping your skills honed and toned!

Let me know how you get on

Southern Enterprise Alliance - opportunities for volunteering

They are seeking business mentors who have the expertise, the skill base and empathy to support new business start ups.  Naturally they have come to ‘our’ network to find the volunteers!  This is a fantastic opportunity to keep your work skills honed and to increase your work network.  The commitment is not going to be to onerous but obviously it is important to develop a ‘relationship’ with the business you are supporting.  For further information and contact details of the Project Manager at Southern Enterprise Alliance contact me.

I really recommend this initiative.  See it as a fantastic win/win opportunity.

Check out this website

Hi everyone

have been told to check them out - which means I will ask you all to check them out!

www.Peopleperhour.com  good place to advertise your services and to have contact with others who may require your skills.  If any of you register and get work can you let me know.

A member of our network has a request

A member of our network has an interim position at the University of Southampton.  She is doing research on the difficulties consultants face in the employment market.  She would like to have contact with some of you  Sadly there would be no remuneration.  But am sure some of you would be interested in supporting her work.

If interested can you contact me so that I can forward your details to her.

Business Link

Hi Everyone

i have had a letter from Business Link about an event that may be of interest to some of you - they are hosting a series of events in Hampshire including the 7th July at Basingstoke Country Hotel [ timings 4 - 8pm]  concerning winning public sector contracts - linked to the 2012 games.  The event is free and there is even a meal! [kerry obviously got her priorities - ]  Many of you are ‘consultants’ and this will be of interest.  To find out more information please call 0845 600 9006 www.businesslinkhampshire.co.uk/events

Kerry saying hello

First of all I am thrilled that Steve has kindly set this up - it allows me to share information quickly and to everyone who is interested.

I attended a meeting at the University of Portsmouth Business School - the key speaker was Professor Neil Rackham talking about consultative selling.  Sadly it was only the evening before the event that I was told it was going to be open to you all.  Too short notice.  He stressed that the way forward in Sales and Marketing are with personnel who have transferrable skills - be it finance, engineering etc.  The days of ‘talking brochures’ are over.  This is not my area of expertise - but wanted you all to be aware of him and his views on the subject.

Welcome

Welcome to the new Executive Network blog hosted by Open Door Training.

The intended format is that Kerry calls the shots and authorises participants to join and post, and Steve Butler will do all the boring techie stuff in the background to keep it running smoothly.

Please feel free to post any articles, comments or advice to the rest of the group so we may all benefit and give feedback. If you have any suggestions for additions to the site setup, please let Steve or Kerry know or just post a comment and people can feedback on whether they agree!

The categories feature has been added to help organise the data - if you can assign a relevant category when you post a new blog item it will help to find that item in the future. These blog things can get pretty big pretty quickly, and the more we put into this blog the more we’ll get out of it. We aren’t restricted to those folk who are between jobs either…the intention is that this blog will be for an ever growing network of executives who can help each other out with any issues we face over the coming weeks, months and years.

Cheers one and all….and welcome!
